Sunlight Home is a place of love — and it’s also a place of structure and accountability. This program works because our residents show up, do the work, and commit to their own growth. This isn’t meant to scare you. It’s meant to prepare you. If you’re willing to put in the work, we will meet you with everything we’ve got.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes — completely free. Housing, classes, counseling, case management, and essential needs for you and your child are all provided at no cost. Residents are responsible for preparing their own meals, but you’ll have full access to a stocked kitchen. Sunlight Home is funded entirely through the generosity of donors and supporters who believe in this mission.
There is no one-size-fits-all answer. Every resident begins in our Embrace phase for immediate stabilization, and from there you can progress into Empower (long-term growth) and Embark (transition to independence) based on your goals and progress. Some residents are with us for a few months, others longer. The length of your stay depends on your individual journey — we’ll work together to figure out the right timeline for you.
Sunlight Home is a Christ-centered program, which means faith is woven into our daily life — devotionals, chapel, and Sunday church attendance are part of the schedule. You don’t have to be a Christian to apply or to live here, but you do need to be willing to participate in these activities with an open heart. Many residents come in unsure about faith and find their own path during their time here. We’ll never force anything on you — but we will invite you in.
Yes — but with structure. Your phone is yours, and after the first 30 days you’ll have it with you throughout the day. There are guidelines around phone use: no phones during classes, chapel, or group meetings. This isn’t about control — it’s about helping you stay present, focused, and connected to the people right in front of you.
During your first 30 days, your phone is turned into the office for safekeeping. You can still use it with staff permission for purposeful things — calls, appointments, important messages. The reason is simple: those first 30 days are about adjusting to a new environment, building healthy routines, and getting settled without distractions. Social media, old conversations, and constant scrolling can pull you back into the very patterns you’re trying to break. It’s temporary, and every resident who’s been through it will tell you it was worth it.
Yes, with approval. All visitors must be pre-approved by the Director, and visitor request forms need to be submitted at least 48 hours before the visit. Visitors are welcome in designated areas only, and they must respect our policies and the privacy of all residents. No overnight guests are permitted. For safety reasons, the address of Sunlight Home is confidential and cannot be shared without the Director’s approval.
Yes — one or the other. Every resident is required to either enroll in an educational program (high school, GED, college, or vocational training) or obtain and maintain employment. This is a core part of the program because we’re building you toward independence. Your case manager will work with you to figure out the best path based on where you are right now. If you’re not sure what you want to do yet, that’s okay — we’ll figure it out together.
Your safety is our top priority — and we take it seriously. The address of Sunlight Home is confidential and is never shared without the Director’s direct approval. The home has a security alarm system that is activated every night from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, and video surveillance is in place in common areas (never in bedrooms or bathrooms). All doors remain locked at all times. If you are in a dangerous situation, know that we are equipped to keep you and your child safe.
We believe in grace and accountability — together. Our disciplinary process is progressive, which means you’ll always have the chance to correct a mistake before things escalate. Minor issues start with a verbal reminder. If a pattern continues, it moves to a written warning, then a Behavior Contract. Serious violations — like violence, substance use, theft, or child neglect — are zero-tolerance and may result in immediate dismissal. We don’t want anyone to leave, but we will always protect the safety of every mother and child in the home.
